A Shower, Southern-Style

Sometimes the setting of a shower dictates the theme of a party and when Shady Wagon Farms unanimously became shower central for mom-to-be, Kelly Felten, an old-fashioned Southern celebration was inevitable.

The mother-to-be and the planners of this Southern soiree all graduated from UNC and wanted to include their school's signature light blue in the color scheme. Carolina blue paired with a sunny yellow kept the shower gender neutral. The happy couple had decided not to find out the sex of their baby.

Tables were draped with yellow linen and then covered with a traditional lace overlay. Natural chivari chairs were adorned with custom floral treatments. A fan-shaped menu card was placed on each chair. Centerpieces were a collage of silver and crystal vases and each table featured a special flower selected by the mom-to-be. Homemade jars of strawberry jam served as place card holders and a yummy take home favor. An antique baby carriage decorated with beautiful bouquets of roses held the shower gifts.

Guests dined on delicious southern cuisine including East Coast crab cakes, petite ham biscuits with peach chutney, lemon pecan chicken breasts and wilted greens.

As guests sipped on baby mint juleps and strawberry lemonade, the guest of honor was presented with a small cake with charms baked inside. The charms held a special meaning for the new mom and were saved for the baby.

After lunch, guests were given a card with several Old Wives Tales that are often used to predict the gender of the baby. Guests were instructed to guess whether the tale indicated a boy or a girl. The players with the most correct answers took home scrumptious cupcakes and lavender sachets, giving this Southern shower a sweet ending.
