When Premier Baby and Child account executive Maureen Powell announced she was expecting, publisher Robyn Mangrum and former editor Corey Williams began planning. "Doing what we do, we see so many beautiful shower ideas," said Robyn. "We wanted something for Maureen that would be really special. Something beautiful but understated, just like Maureen. We chose a bird theme because we wanted to help feather the little guy's nest."
The party was held at Bass Lake Park and Retreat Center in Holly Springs. The venue offered a lovely porch with white rocking chairs overlooking the lake. Tables were set with aqua and coral taffeta linens and topped with lush flowers arranged in birdcages.
As the ladies arrived, they enjoyed the beautiful, natural surroundings and signed a birdhouse painted in the party's aqua and coral color scheme. They sipped champagne from wineglasses adorned with aqua feathers and feasted on a beautiful spread of appetizers prepared by Vivace including shrimp cocktail spoons, tomato and fresh basil sandwiches, roasted pepper tartlets.
They ate bird- and birdhouse-shaped sugar cookies hand-decorated by Whimsical Cookies and enjoyed hummingbird cake displayed on an elegant birdfeeder.
After the ladies had finished their meal, it was time for the real fun to begin! The guests divided into teams and went on a nature scavenger hunt, looking for baby goodies hidden throughout the park. When all the goodies were found, they were given to the mom-to-be as a fun surprise.
As the guests departed, they took with them a tulip bulb to plant and remember the shower, artfully presented with a poem in a pretty pot.
