Born to Shop: A Second Baby Shower

Second showers can be tough to plan. Friends and family want to acknowledge the exciting new arrival, but the mom-to-be often has much of what she needs from the first time around. That's why a shopping shower was such a perfect theme for Fancy Hogan's second shower.

With a shopping shower, guests are able to give the second time (or third time) mom-to-be gift cards to stores and services that she'll use. From a gift certificate for baby's birth announcement from Everything But the Baby to a gift card to decorate his first room from dilly dally and Baby Swank, Fancy received gifts that were both practical and indulgent. A gift certificate from Cravings was also a wonderful way to indulge Fancy as she headed into her third trimester. Not forgetting that Fancy loves to have the best-dressed baby on the block, she received gift cards from Moxie Kids, Simply Spoiled and Silly Goose.

At around noon the ladies gathered in the bar area of Vivace Ristorante. They enjoyed champagne before beginning the fun by playing "The Baby Price is Right." Each guest tried to guess the prices of several common baby products. The guest that was the closest to the actual prices won a subscription to the shopping magazine Lucky, and Fancy took home the items as part of her gifts.

The ladies were seated and enjoyed a delicious lunch featuring fresh figs stuffed with local cheese, arancini with fresh mozzarella, sausage and ricotta stuffed fried olives, grilled chicken salad with peaches, grape tomatoes, pecans, and goat cheese. They finished with a slice of Fancy's amazingly detailed purse cake from Swank Cake.

Then it was time for the real business of the event - shopping. Each guest took her specially monogrammed bag and headed to the area's various stores for an afternoon of shopping with the girls. The guests also enjoyed shopping for themselves and their own children. In the end, it was a party theme that everyone could really enjoy.
