A Seaside Sail-abration

When you live at the beach, nothing seems more natural than setting your sails in the direction of a nautical celebration. "Since the family lives in Wilmington, a nautical theme seemed appropriate and a bit unique from the traditional beach theme," says party planner Courtney Scholl of Bash. Invitations to the party were handmade with a navy blue background and a twine string of nautical flags. Picnic tables were draped with handmade sails and place mats and were decorated with flowers.

Kids were given their very own basket with a sandwich in the shape of a sailboat and packaged with a handmade tag that read "Set Sail". Watermelon wedges topped off with a flag to look like a sailboat, sweet potato chips and a boat shaped rice krispie treat were also included in each basket. Adults were served similar baskets containing barbecue sandwiches, corn on the cob with custom made holders, and hushpuppies.

The mini lighthouse birthday cakes were a huge hit. Nautical themed tote-style favor bags filled with bubbles, sailboat stickers, a toy sailboat and a cookie were also given to the children as they set their sails for home.
