Cultural traditions handed down from generation to generation are an important part of any family. For the Powell clan a New Zealand inspired birthday party for their one year old son Ryan was the perfect chance to give their family and friends a taste of their native land. As the guests gathered to share fun, food and the flavors of New Zealand it was evident that everyone was impressed with the exceptional farm-themed party setting. The celebration was held in the large red party-barn at Shady Wagon Farms in New Hill. The barn came complete with fluffy spring lambs, honking geese and a peace pond filled with ducks.
The tables were decorated hay bales topped with wool place mats and a kiwi- a common New Zealand bird-centerpieces. Enthusiastic partygoers participated in an exciting game of rugby, a favorite New Zealand pastime.
After working up an appetite, guests dined on traditional foods served in the Powell family's homeland, such as mini fish and chips provided by Premier Catering, tiny Pahutakawa cookies (a special flower in found in New Zealand) and tasty "buzzy bee" cupcakes. The party theme continued with mouthwatering Kiwi-tinis for the kids and New Zealand wine for the older guests. Favors included cookies, cupcakes and personalized embroidered New Zealand ALL BLACKS t-shirts to top-off a g'day for Ryan and his mates.
