Farm Fresh Fun

Grace Herring could hardly contain herself. Today she turns eight – such an exciting time in a little girl's life. And, even more exciting, her mom has invited all of her friends and family to what she just knows will be the most fun party in the world. Today Grace's family will celebrate by sharing some of their farm fresh traditions. Grace's guests all received hand-sewn invitations featuring tiny aprons accented with buttons, vintage lace, farm flowers and a zigzag stitch. When the guests arrived at Grace's house, they played "guess how many cups of organic flour are in this jar" and "what ingredients go into a cupcake and frosting?" After the guessing games, the girls took off their shoes, rolled up their jeans and ran to the chicken house to collect the fresh eggs they would use to make their own cupcakes. Each guest carried a little white wire basket filled with straw for collecting eggs and took a turn going into the chicken house to reach for eggs under a clucking chicken perched on a nesting box.

Each guest selected a homemade apron to wear while making her own cupcake. All of the aprons were made with vintage materials and decorated with ribbons and doilies (from: Kim Herring) - then it was time to cook. Three stations stocked with a big glass mixing bowl, an old-timey crank flour sifter, and organic ingredients were set-up for making cupcakes. Each girl got to stir her ingredients with her very own personalized wooded spoon. And decorating their organic cupcakes with edible flowers, homemade icing and drizzled chocolate was a big hit with the young chiefs.

Tables decorated in soft pastel colors, crocheted place mats and a variety of retro patterned fabrics gave the party a homespun look. Mason jars and galvanized milk jugs filled with pink and white daisies and tulips made sweet centerpieces for this natural setting. Guests sipped soft drinks made with organic juices and sparkling water. They also enjoyed skewers of frozen fruits, crispy organic green beans and organic vanilla ice cream. And, best of all, each girl got to enjoy the cupcake she had baked herself.

Each guest took home a basket filled with natural gum, strawberry lollipops, the recipe for the cupcake she had baked, pink gardening gloves, more cupcakes and her own personalized wooden spoon.
