January is a special month for many reasons and for birthday girl Regan, this was the perfect opportunity to ring in the Chinese New Year and celebrate with friends and family. The spectacular party color palette included shades of red, pink, purple and gold. Red and gold represent the traditional colors used for Chinese New Year celebrations. The kids had a special floor palette for seating that consisted of a small table draped in bright pink satin and complimented by red bamboo mats to sit on. Festive Chinese dragons with tails made from tangerines, ribbon and orchids served as centerpieces. An eye-catching chandelier complete with Chinese lanterns, orchids and colorful ribbons hung from the party room ceiling.
The Chinese dolls were brought from China by Reagan's grandfather, as gifts for the children. The kids danced around with room a six foot long brightly colored Chinese dragon, creating their own new year's parade.
After the dance the kids dined on salt-and-pepper shrimp, dumplings, mini take-out boxes of vegetable stir-fry, miso soup, ginger salad, and tangerine parfaits. As the party came to an end, guests took home takeout boxes filled with a cookie, orange blossom tea, a chocolate dipped fortune cookie, a Lai See (a customary red envelope filled with a small amount of money) and a mini bamboo plant to help them remember their special day.
