When Ashton Phillip Wells was born in July of 2007, Dr. Andrew and Anita Wells wouldn't accept anything less for their little prince than a room fit for a king. "We were inspired by the desire to create the atmosphere of a magical medieval castle. The theme for Ashton's room arose from a love for the lavish styling of royal European courts from centuries past" Dr. Wells explains.
The nursery's color scheme includes soft shades of blue with rich chocolate brown and neutral tones. The heavier metals of the bedroom and bathroom chandeliers, from University Lights in Durham, are offset by the twinkle of the faceted crystals that drip from them. The ebony carved crib-to-toddler bed and dresser with changing table by Bratt Décor (dilly dally in Raleigh) and Pulaski Signature Accentrics bathroom vanity from Kirk Imports in Raleigh, give the room a regal touch. Floor length, Dupioni silk draperies, crib bedding and shower curtain were all custom made with coordinating fabrics (Mill Outlet, Draperies by Townes, Raleigh) and are offset by sheer swags cascading from the blue and chocolate monogrammed royal crown (dilly dally).
The soft, dreamlike castle and landscape mural painted by Jeannie Lovell of Quinn-Art in Cary, includes a light airbrushed background to blend in with the tan walls. On the opposite wall from the castle scene, Jeannie incorporated a whimsical mural of the Royal Hare proclaiming the knighting of Sir Aston "in honor of his skill and bravery to the kingdom".
"This whimsical haven was so much fun to design and create. We really enjoyed working with everyone involved." Dr. Wells explains with a smile. "The murals are our favorite design feature and truly make our fairy tale seem like a reality."
