Have you ever wondered where the phrase "sleeping like a baby" came from? Just ask Hayli Thornhill of Beanie + Cecil Baby. She took a small oddly shaped room and turned it into the simple and serene nursery that any baby could rest peacefully in.
"Keeping it simple and minimizing clutter, especially as a child grows and collects more stuff was my goal," says Hayli. Contemporary furniture with limited hardware for baby's safety was used along with a less-is-more approach defined by a crib that converts into a toddler bed, organic mattress with a simple fitted sheet and trundle storage under the crib. Striking black and white art accented the ivory, white, navy and baby blue shades of the room. "Staying with two shades of one color kept everything as clean and classically contemporary as possible," Hayli explains. Custom curtains were made from batik print with lively animals to "pop" and enhance the sturdy high quality furniture.
A brown faux-suede glider and shelving for hand crocheted toys by Anne Claire Petit were selected for their versatility and for later use in other rooms. Unique dècor included animal wall art by Dwell Studio as well as a toy chest and hamper that helped tie the room together.
Using transitional pieces that can grow-with-baby makes cost sense and keeps baby's room contemporary and classic for years to come.
