Flying High

Pilots and planes were the theme of choice when it came time to create a nursery with special meaning for the Barton family. They are convinced that their new baby boy will, with out a doubt, extend the family's long line of enthusiastic airplane pilots. So, Doug and Ann Barton wanted to create a nursery that would be meaningful to their family and would provide a healthy environment for baby to grow in.

When the designers at GreenPea Nursery discovered a vintage airplane fabric with a Wright Brother's theme, the Barton's knew it would be perfect for a North Carolina nursery. Healthy steps taken to ensure safety included using low-voc paints, an organic mattress and organic bed fabrics. An air purifier was also added to the room to protect against allergies. The colors and fabrics that were chosen were specially selected to grow with the child. A playful crib and light blue fabric added just enough "baby" to the room. They also added other touches such as stars, denims and stripes that can transition easily as baby develops and changes.

"Custom window treatments, furniture and pillows are useful additions that can enhance the child's room for years to come," Krista Cathey, owner of GreenPea Nursery explains. To personalize and complete the nursery, muralist Loren Pease of SweetPease Art created a fantastic airplane themed mural. Doug and Ann agree that the room is a "soaring" success.
