A Classic Playroom

Today's kids come with many things. After holidays and birthday parties, parents are left asking themselves "Where are we going to put all of these toys?" As kids get older, the once adult playrooms are now being converted into havens for children. This transition is exactly what Megan Dansey, mother of two boys, Carsten and Reece, was in. While keeping the kids in mind, Megan wanted to create a beautiful, yet classic look for the soon to be playroom. "I wanted the room to flow with the rest of the house, using most of the same colors," Megan explains.

Enter artist Jeannie Lovell of Quinn-Art in Cary. Walking into the room, Jeannie starred at blank walls, but she also saw a few striking elements to pull ideas from. One fixture that stood out was a hot air balloon chandelier that looked antique. Painted in subdued colors this piece definitely had a European feel. Jeanie decided on a classic French and English toile theme, along with the color scheme from the handmade window treatments and pillows. Megan wanted the playroom to mirror something of her sons' identity. This gave Jeannie the inspiration to create a life-like mural of the two boys doing what they loved most, playing outside. "I love the idea of having my boys in the mural," Megan says. "It's the details of them in their monogrammed, seersucker outfits, climbing and swinging outside that makes this portrait so special."
