REX Family Birth Center

The Rooms

Rex has all private rooms with special birthing beds that adjust to multiple positions and convert for delivery, have a television, a VCR, a telephone and a private bathroom with a shower. Mom can also control the light level in her room. After delivery, moms are transported to a separate, comfortable postpartum room.

Infant Care

Although most moms delivering at Rex choose to have baby remain in their room, Rex provides nursery services when mom needs extra rest. If baby requires special care or is born premature, Rex has both a level II and level III Special Care Nursery and offers neonatology services 24/7. After delivery, new parents can tune-in to the Newborn Channel for "how to" baby care basics and parenting advice. Parents may also have their baby's car seat checked by a certified child passenger safety seat technician.

For Your Family

Two support people may be present for baby's birth in addition to mom's partner. Birthing rooms have a convertible sleep chair for partners. Rex promotes family-centered care through non-separation of mother and baby for as long as Mom wishes. Support groups are also available for mothers.

Classes Offered

Rex Family Birth Center offers classes on Preparing for Childbirth, Preparing for Childbirth Review, Labor Support, Baby Care Basics, Preparing to Breastfeed, Infant Child CPR, Prenatal Yoga, Prenatal and Postnatal Exercise, Infant Massage, Working and Breastfeeding and Proper Car Seat Installation. Sibling Classes are available for soon-to-be big brothers and sisters. Online registration is available at rexhealth.com. Moms should plan to register in the first trimester for classes they plan to take in their third trimester. Space is limited.

Of Note

Rex is proud to cooperate with the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank. This bank collects umbilical cord blood from women wishing to donate their baby's cord blood for use by an unrelated patient in need of a transplant or for use in medical research. Donation is voluntary, confidential and at no cost to donors. New moms can find all they need at Rex Women's Resource Center including professional advice, classes before and after baby is born, free telephone assistance with breastfeeding questions, outpatient appointments and the services of a certified bra fitter to assist moms in choosing nursing bras. The resource center offers breast pumps for sale and rental, nursing bras and attire, books, breast-feeding supplies, car seats and health education materials for women in other phases of life.
