Duke Birthing Center

The Rooms

The 20 Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum rooms have Jacuzzi tubs, sleep sofas for Dad, TV/VCRs, and telephones. These rooms are designed to convert to a delivery room with all the necessary equipment concealed until needed, and then convert back to a postpartum room. Birthing Balls and bars are available to Mom upon request. Dedicated Women's Anesthesia is available 24 x 7. The 16 private post partum rooms have sleep chairs, TV/VCRs, hairdryers, and private showers. There is a pantry available to fathers and family members. Rooming-in is encouraged although the newborn nursery is available. A neonatal stabilization team is prepared to attend any delivery. Neonatal level 2 and 3 services are directly adjacent to the Birthing Center should they be needed. Women laboring may have 2-3 support people present during labor. Visitors may be limited for maternal health concerns. Only one support person is allowed in a cesarean delivery. Regular visiting hours are from 9am-9pm.
